Have you heard about the “not so succesful” salesman who, if he only could get; the right brochures, the right presentation, the right manual, the right back-up and the right…
– He was certainly going to sell…!
We – the people – are experts in finding excuses “if only”, especially if our knowledge, skill, capacity or other personal qualities or performance is challenged. Continue reading
The “Western lifestyle” is extremely focused on consumption and we are pushing hard to increase consumerism and spread it all over the world. Even as we start to consider sustainability, most corporations and governments promote sustainable products and services but at the same time push for more growth…
“Buying 5 pairs of jeans made from ecologically grown cotton, when you only need 1 pair doesn’t make you sustainable…”
We seem to focus on the symptoms, not the cause of the problem. Currently we are consuming the planet’s resources at a rate of approximately 156% – If everybody should consume at the same level as in Sweden, we need 3.5 Planets, at US level 4.5 Planets, just to support our current lifestyle – We have only ONE – and it is suffering…!?

So – What ARE we doing to change this… Continue reading
Polar bears are getting the worst of it. Being a large predator at the top of the food chain doesn’t help much when the world’s largest predator is hunting for more resources, infinite growth and more wealth….
Polar bears depend on sea ice for their existence and are directly impacted by climate change. Continue reading
Is it really true that One hour at the Eiffel Tower in Paris is equal to 6 minutes in the rest of the world?
Earth Hour 2013
I had the opportunity to be in Paris at the “Esplanade du Trocadero” for the Earth Hour 2013 event. There were thousands of expectant people gathered to witness when the lights at the Eiffel Tower was shut down to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change – and to be cheated as it turned out! Yes! – It can definitely be an obstacle.
Many corporations invest a lot of time and effort into complex processes describing how their business should be carried out. Many have also brought these processes to certification according to ISO or other schemes. Depending on how processes are setup they can either pose as a gigantic hurdle to overcome or they can be used during the transition. Continue reading
Undoubtedly we will pass 400 ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere this year – an all-time high, a World Record that no one will salute! A record and a curve, that our children and their children will show us and ask – WHY? Continue reading
Anyone ever attending a seminary or a work-shop on the subject of Change, regardless if it is based on Claes Jansens illustrative “The Four Rooms of Change” or some other theory on human behaviour, knows how good we are at denial.
In fact we are so good at it that it would probably qualify as an Olympic Sport – and we could all attend….
Some examples – I’m 100% sure that you can add more….
If I don’t eat it, someone else will….
Just a couple of weeks back I was standing in a queue at a luncheon restaurant, in front of me where two business-men. I couldn’t help overhearing their conversation. Continue reading
Sometimes when I look in a newspaper, at a billboard or a commercial it is quite amazing how little has changed when it comes to conveying a Sustainability message.
Are corporations still using mainly “Old School” approach….or is it something else?
The Social Medias have been around for, at least some time, there is an abundance of educations, lectures, seminaries etc. on how to use “new” channels of information, how to reach the “Generation Y” people etc, there is also an on-going debate on why information about Sustainability needs to be 100% transparent….and still? Not much has happened. Continue reading
A “Blue Planet”
Normally when looking at pictures of our Planet, it seems very blue and whenever you are standing at a shore-line, looking at the sea, it seems incomprehensible large. Therefore when you read articles about sea-level rise, acidification, water-shortage etc. it is very easy to “shake your shoulders” and think -“With so much water on the planet, it can’t be a problem….”
Time to re-think – Water is far from an abundant resource! Continue reading
